THE PHILOSOPHY OF OTIUM AND LO SHU
The story of OTIUM intertwines the ancient Chinese philosophy of Lo Shu with the Roman concept of OTIUM, creating a unique and harmonious fusion. It all begins with the legend of the Lo Shu turtle, which emerged from the Yellow River bearing a magical square on its back. This square, known as the Lo Shu magic square, contained nine boxes, each filled with a number from 1 to 9. Remarkably, the sum of the numbers in every row, column and diagonal is always 15.
The discovery of this magical arrangement of numbers held great significance in Chinese culture. It was believed to possess extraordinary powers and became integral to various practices such as Feng Shui and Chinese astrology. Its precision and harmony resonated deeply with the Chinese way of life, emphasizing the importance of balance in all aspects, from work to leisure and from design to function.
